Christine
Leskin Benner is a life-long resident of Schuylkill County. She attended Tamaqua
High School, where she took the photography course that eventually led to the
formation of this business. She is married to Tim Benner, and her daughter
Morgan is in 7th grade at Blue Mountain Middle School.
Lisa Gillespie
has lived in Schuylkill County since her marriage to Jim Gillespie. She has six
children and one grandchild. Her son Jacob is in 7th grade with
Morgan Benner, and Hannah is in 5th grade at Blue Mountain Elementary
West.
The idea for
1000 WORDS came out of a random conversation about cannolis. Chris was relating
a story about Tim and Morgan going out to take pictures of letters to make
Morgan’s name and stopping at a restaurant in Orwigsburg for cannolis. She went
on to explain that the premise was to go outside (which was why a lot of people
took the class) and find objects in nature and architecture that resembled
letters. You had to find the letters to spell out your name.
After hearing
the story, Lisa suggested that they try to find all the letters of the alphabet,
create words and names, and see if it would be something people would buy. It
took a few months to find the images, and they went to their first craft show in
March 2008.
We are excited
to be able to display some of our pieces at the Lazy Dog Coffeehouse.. While we
will be showing premade phrases, we are happy to customize and personalize any
name or word you might need.
